KUALA LUMPUR: Perak Ruler Sultan Nazrin Muizzuddin Shah graced Universiti Malaya’s (UM) Arts and Social Sciences faculty 60th alumni homecoming anniversary dinner celebration on Sunday (Dec 1).

“60 years is a very important milestone in the life of a person. In a career, it marks the end of a long journey.

“For many cultures, it also marks one of most important years. For the Chinese, 60 years means a full zodiac cycle for Europeans, it is known as the Diamond Jubilee, which signifies longevity.

“For our faculty, 60 years indicates continuity of hope, dreams and aspirations for each generation that are moving towards academic excellence,” he said in his speech.

Wong said since the inception of the faculty in 1963, it has produced at least 40,000 graduates in various courses in the arts and social sciences.

“The faculty also produced graduates at the postgraduate and doctorate level as well,” he said.

At the event, the faculty also took the opportunity to reach out to its alumni by embarking on a donation campaign as part of its initiative to improve the faculty’s infrastructure.

Featured prominent alumni of the faculty, includes Former Transport Minister Tan Sri Chan Kong Choy, former Council of Eminent Persons (CEP) chairman Tun Daim Zainuddin and former Human Rights Commission of Malaysia (Suhakam) chairman Tan Sri Razali Ismail.
